How To Advice???

I could use some advice on applying urethane to hardwood. I've stained it and it's dry and ready to be done, but it's one of those things I just freaking hate doing. Staining I can do, a monkey can apply stain, it's easy. Paint is no problem either. But I hate the pad thing that everyone tells me is the BEST way to apply urethane. Every time I use it, I get marks where it gets picked up and put down on the floor. I HATE it. I can apply it with a brush no problem, but the room I need to do is 20' x 12' and it's just too big.

Thing is, on tv, on the home improvement shows, they use a window squeegee on a stick to apply the varnish. I have seen it a bunch of times, but not once did they explain how to thin the varnish to make it do that or actually show how to do it step by step!

The Home Depot people say, "I've never heard of it." They LIE. I look on the net, I can't find one site that explains how to do it. I would be able to do a very good job with a squeegee on a stick, that is how we wash marble floors in Mexcio, squeegee, stick, wet cloth on the floor, pull the cloth around with the stick. Super easy.

Plus, it takes about a minute to put on one coat with this method, and it looks like fun. :) And yes, I love washing marble floors. :)

So someone out there reading this must know how to do it, right?? I didn't dream it every single time I saw it on tv did I?????

I need to do it tonight, I haven't bought the urethane yet. Or varethane, or whatever it's called. It's sticky and stinky and I just hate doing it.

Maybe I should try a roller. ;)

Marica, you have my permission to be rude to anyone you want to be rude to on my blog. :) Not only that, you have my blessing. :)

I used the lambs wool thing. I've got one coat on. :) Tomorrow, I'll rub it all with steel wool, swiffer it, and put on another coat.

It actually didn't turn out too bad, there are a couple of "puddly" areas, but all in all, at the end of the day, wu-tang clan ain't nuthin' to fuck with.

Ahhhh, fumes. :)

I wish I could tell you Annie. But being the safety nerd I am I want you to make sure everything is properly ventilated, right?

Yes I have the french doors wide open and all the window open. It still stinks though. :/

And I feel realllllly cool. ;)

Not long ago we were complaining about the heat. :)
I'm glad you are being safe.

Ah but where were you last night when I was primering the bathroom and I had to paint behind the door so I closed it??? And then forgot to open it again??

I'm not the brightest. :) Once I felt the fumes taking control of my brain, I remembered and opened it. I'm probably permenantly damaged. :)

I don't want to go rub the floor with steel wool. I'm avoididing it, and I cant avoid it for much longer. I want to go shopping! To see a movie!!! But nope, it's just not in the cards for me. I have to varnish floors and paint bathrooms. :(

Say hi to real life for me, Shai....

I just did about a quarter of the floor. Holy Moly! I thought I did a better job. :(

It's a good thing my thighs are so strong, it's going to take forever to finish this. It is a good way to tighten the butt though. ;)

I've decided to take lots of breaks and not be in a hurry. :)

And I should prolly have a mask of some kind on, I can taste steel wool in the back of my throat, ewwww.

Wow, this is hard! I've got about two thirds done, and I just don't want to do anymore! It's awful, even with a mask, it's making a huge metal dust mess and I've HAD it.

My nails are ruined!!! Even with gloves on!

I don't want to play this game anymore!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

I would say hi to real life for you, Annie, if I hadn't been in the studio dancing and singing with Elmo trying to get 1 year olds to laugh...or at least just look at the camera. :/
Right now a good varnish high sounds tempting.

It's done. It was total hell. I need to learn to read the directions on the can instead of listening to people who don't know shit. If I had started rubbing the finish out hours earlier it would have been much easier. As it is, I think I bit off more than I could chew and I hurt myself, I'm freaking sore all over and I'm pissed at the world. I also put a second coat of paint in the bathroom, the ceiling is 12 feet in there and that was NO FUN. And, I glazed a window, believe it or not.

I am way too hot for this bullshit.

Calgon take me away!!!!
